4 Simple Ways to Declutter Your Mind as a Busy Mom
Your life changes in every way once you’ve had kids. It’s not just adding a child to your previous life. It’s changing absolutely everything. Your daily routine will be vastly different, your feelings and emotions will change, and you’ll suddenly find that you always put someone else’s needs before your own. It can come as quite a shock, and no longer having only yourself to think about can be strange. Your mind can feel cluttered and messy. You’ve still got all of your old thoughts, feelings and things to do, but you’ve got constant worries and concerns about your child. It can be stressful and overwhelming. It very often feels like you need to declutter your mind. Here’s how to do just that.
Declutter Your Home
Have you ever been told that a messy home leads to a messy mind? Well, it’s true. When you’re surrounded by clutter and mess, you can quickly become stressed out. It can be hard to relax and unwind, even when the kids are in bed if you’re surrounded by stuff with nowhere to go.
Ideally, when the kids have gone to sleep, you should be able to spend 5 minutes having a quick tidy and putting everything in its home, before relaxing and getting a little bit of grown-up time for yourself.
As a parent, a lot of the clutter in your home will belong to your children. So, the first thing that you should do is look at nursery furniture sets and bedroom storage. Keep their rooms tidy and well organized, and a lot of their clutter will be confined to these spaces. Then, have a really good clear out, recycling, donating or selling everything you no longer need or want, and making sure that everything that’s left has a home. Even if it means that you need to be smart with your storage.
One of the biggest changes that many parents find is that they are always on the go. They never just sit and think, or lie in bed, awake, but doing nothing. Their eyes are opened to a morning cry; then they are on the go right up until they fall into bed and close them again. This isn’t good for you. Take some time to stop and breathe whenever you can. Take time to understand what ‘mindfulness’ is and apply it whenever possible.
Do Something for Yourself
Many moms suffer from guilt. They feel like they have to be with their children all of the time, and that everything that they do should be for them. This isn’t the case. In fact, it’s important for your children that you take a little time for yourself occasionally. It’ll make you a much better parent and give them some quality time with other people. You might want to go shopping with friends, go for a meal with your partner, or just take a long hot bath with a good book and a glass of wine.
Whatever that ‘thing’ is that makes you happy and able to unwind and relax, you should do it!
Exercise is a brilliant way to get some time away from the kids, boost your energy levels, increase your confidence and give you a chance to clear some of the clutter from your mind. Try some classes, some online exercise videos, and some gym sessions to find something that you enjoy.
