4 Ways Getting Organized Can Reduce Stress for Busy Moms

How getting organized can reduce stress for busy moms, and 4 ways to do it.

Guest post by Jennifer Kitson.

It’s popular belief that moms, even working moms, often take on more of the organization, cleaning, and childcare than their partners. But do you realize how much of that stress falls on your shoulders? A 2016 national study found that on a typical day, in households with children under six-years-old, women spent 1.1 hours dealing with physical child care, for example feeding children and giving them baths. In contrast, men in those same homes spent only *26 minutes* providing physical care for the children.

When it came to house cleaning and organization, 21 percent of men did the housework, compared to 50 percent of women.

How getting organized can reduce stress and 4 ways to do it

Why Getting Organized Is Important for a Busy Mom

Clutter and disorganization have real effects on our mental health and stress levels. Not only does it consume more of your time when you have to search for something, but it can be emotionally draining to be surrounded by mess. Disorganization can cause negative feelings of embarrassment, anxiety, and signals to our brain that “work is never done.” Moreover, it makes it easier to forget activities scheduled for both yourself and your kids or accidentally double schedule. For those reasons, getting organized can reduce stress a ton for busy moms!

1.Take a Picture for Perspective on Organization

Ever observe how much more you notice things in pictures, whether you like what you see or not? (Think of the last photo of you and how easy it was to focus on the flaws.) To start, take a picture of your rooms or specific areas like corners or closets. Our eyes adapt to seeing our surroundings so much we don’t realize how much clutter is around us. Viewing a photograph can bring to light unnecessary messes and the reality of what our surroundings look like more objectively.

2. When You Realize Where You Need to Organize, Use a Three-Part Rule

Minimalist and organization expert Marie Kondo has a plethora of tips for decluttering. However, one of the easiest for busy moms is utilizing a simple three-part rule of getting rid of unnecessary things.

· If you haven’t used it in the past six months or know you won’t use it in the next year, donate or sell it.

· If it does not hold strong sentimental value, donate or sell it.

· Lastly, if it does not bring you joy when you hold it or look at it, donate or sell it.

If you can’t bring yourself to part with an object because of nostalgia, but need more space in your rooms, find the proper storage for it. Organized storage in well-labeled containers or shelves will feel like a weight off your shoulders.

3. Delegating To Save Time

Try to save yourself chunks of time each week by delegating some household tasks to others. If you’re able to afford a cleaner, or ironing service then this is a fantastic way to reduce stress and ensure that key jobs are taken care of each week without you needing to worry. Similarly, you can order regular deliveries of food or groceries to arrive each week or fortnight, which will save you a trip to the store.

4. Don’t Forget to Organize Your Technology

Keep in mind that disorganization does not just mean your home. Getting tech organized can reduce stress majorly! In our tech-obsessed society , trying to find an app on your phone or a file on your laptop can result in unnecessary search time and unneeded frustration. Organize devices like your phone with easy-to-navigate folders. Because we spend hours every day on these devices, it’s a worthwhile task to do. Unlike laundry, organizing your devices only needs to be done once and then updated infrequently.

Hopefully, you realize the importance of organizing your busy life as a mom. There are too many factors to juggle with family schedules, activities, finding soccer shoes, doing laundry, and so forth. Try with one corner of your home. Take a picture, look at the mess, and organize that one spot. You’ll see how restored you feel. Better yet, delegate some tasks to your mate, especially if you’re a working mom. You might be Superwoman, but even Superwoman needs a break.

How to Throw the Best Darn Patriotic Party on the Block

How to Throw the Best Darn Patriotic Party on the Block

As of 5 years ago, we’ve thrown a 4th of July party every year at our house. 5 years was (as of the writing of this post) when we moved in. 2 weeks before the baby was born. Yes, I was clearly unbalanced. But we did it. And now we live on this awesome property in this awesome town, and are fortunate enough to throw big get-togethers where friends and family hang out, let the kids play, and sometimes drink a bit too much. (The grown-ups. You knew what I meant.)

And I think the party I love the MOST is probably for the 4th. But keep in mind that a patriotic party can also be your end-of-the-summer shindig for Labor Day! Either way, it’s worth taking a few notes on how to throw the best darn patriotic party ever!

It all started when our friends (who moved here the same time as us) asked if we could do the party at our house. The problem was that their POA didn’t allow firecrackers and fireworks, but since we lived outside the city limits, nobody gave a hoot unless it started a fire. (Although one year one of the *BIG* fireworks fell sideways and launched across the street and into the neighbor’s yard dangerously close to their house. Still not sure how we didn’t get a call on that one…) Anyway, we agreed, and the rest is history.

Being from the South, I feel it’s my duty to be the best dang hostess there ever was. Which means a TON of food, a variety of food (because we have several littles with food allergies–and not just my littles), as many pool toys as we can find, a bazillion water balloons, and a fireworks show that literally grows every year!

So whether you’re showing your luvs for our country on the 4th, or the 1st Monday of September, (or any other day that we celebrate our country and its heroes) here are some fantastic guidelines on throwing the BEST patriotic party ever!

1.Plan for the HEAT

We live in Texas and it’s not just hot–it’s sweltering here. Humidity you can cut with a knife. We used to put up a super long tent on our patio for shade, but we have a patio cover built now. Even with that in the shade, it’s still hot. So we have some really large fans to put on one end of the patio to keep air circulating and flies away if they’re bad.

Also–should go without saying but make sure you have stations with lots of water.

And if you’re putting seating and some yard games out, find some shade for those!

2. Have ENOUGH food, and a VARIETY of food

I know it’s a holiday, but I always put healthy options for any get-together for 3 reasons:

1- Some of us would like to pretend we’re sticking to our diets. (Ahem.)

2- Some ‘holiday’ foods seem to cause upset tummies with the artificial this and that plus lots of sugar. Mine are prime examples. So I make them get veggies and/or fruit when they fix their plates, and they have to eat said veggies before stuffing their faces with cupcakes or cookies.

3- Some people have legitimate dietary restrictions (like Diabetes or food allergies) and need something besides stuff full of sugar or salt or other allergenic ingredients.

*I always recommend having a few veggie trays, fruit trays, and cheese/cracker platters.

*Sometimes I’ll save packages, just fold them neatly and hide them in case anyone needs to see ingredient lists. I know that sounds cumbersome, but do YOU want somebody going into anaphylactic shock at your party? Didn’t think so.

Check out more ideas for Patriotic Party on my Pinterest board too!

3. Beverages

One HUGE tip on beverages for summer is to invest in a really good cooler. Lots of people are jumping on the Yeti bandwagon, and I don’t disagree that those things are great. But there are other brands that don’t cost as much and still give just as much cooling power. We bought a brand called Bison, and they’re awesome! They’ll keep ice for like 3 days, no lie (even with people opening and shutting to get out drinks all afternoon!)

But also:

  • Have kids’ drinks where they can reach them (as long as they’re spill-proof)
  • Have water bottles readily available and in clear view.
  • Spread drinks around the party area (inside + outside) so you don’t have traffic only for drinks.
  • Have a few trash cans around to collect empty cups, cans, and bottles.
  • And for heaven’s sake, make sure all the booze is readily available and on ice!!

4. Seating

Always make sure you have a big amount of chairs and seating. Nobody likes to be forced inside just to sit down. Or relegated to the concrete. And don’t forget that darker colors soak up that heat more than lighter colors! I’ve been legit burned on the backs of my legs before from a black chair in the sun!!

We’ve borrowed lawn chairs from friends before, and I try to snatch up ones on sale and keep them stored. We actually use those things a lot! Don’t worry about them matching–nobody cares.

5. Entertain the kids

Quite honestly this one doesn’t require a ton of thought. You can either ask your kids, or just look on Pinterest for summer activities for parties. (Click on image above to check out my Pinterest board for Patriotic Party ideas.)

We have a pool, so we make sure we have a ton of inflatables, including a blow-up volleyball set. But I also invest in the Buncho balloons where you fill like eight million at once and they have a water balloon fight. We keep sidewalk chalk stocked, and we have a trampoline and a zip line. But we’ll also buy a few cheap large balls for the kids to kick around too.

I’ve also seen some really cool takes on classic games where the components are spray painted red, white, or blue to make them more festive. Some examples were the big jenga version, croquet, outdoor bowling, horse shoes, and bean bag toss.

There are seriously so many cool things to set up for outdoor activities, but keep in mind that kids usually like to just…play!

6. Keep the bathroom FRESH

  • Leave a stack of clean hand towels on the bathroom counter. (Or opt for disposable ones like these pretty ones that simulate linen!)
  • Leave rolls of TP on the back of the toilet in case it runs out.
  • Make sure the soap dispenser is FULL before guests arrive–it can get low super quick! Try a beautiful clear glass one that you can refill!
  • Try to check in on the bathroom frequently–it can get messy with a ton of people over that are in and out of the house!

7. Special accommodations

Like for breastfeeding mamas that need to nurse. Or smaller kids that may need a nap. Have a room or two that are clean, and nice and cool and dark for this kind of stuff. And make sure those Mamas know the rooms are there for that, and to feel free to lock the door if they need to!

8. The dollar store can be your best friend

I honestly love the convenience of Amazon. But. The dollar store has SO MANY cool little finds, and can be a budgetary savior for parties. If you start early you can find some really cool stuff. And don’t sweat finding things that are already themed for a patriotic party. Just look for things in those colors and put stuff together.

*And most of all–don’t kill yourself going overboard!! People like looking at cool decor, but it won’t make or break your party!

9. Safety first for fireworks!

There are seriously some super cool new fireworks that come out every year! But keep in mind that even the most overzealous designated fireworks igniter may not be the most responsible. (I hate to say this but men in particular–and teenage boys–are sometimes totally oblivious to the fact that fireworks can maim you. And that said maiming is one of Moms’ worst fears.)

Be proactive in making safety precautions.

Have PVC pipes that can be dug into the ground for fireworks that shoot out far distances. Use solo cups with a hole punched in the end for sparklers (again–see the Pinterest board.) And make sure there’s adequate distance for all ground firecrackers and where people are sitting.

*Oh yeah–and make sure you have bug spray handy for when the sun goes down!!

9. Don’t frazzle yourself beforehand–have fun!

And really the rest of being a good hostess is making sure food and beverages are refilled when needed, or cleaned up, and MINGLING! You want your guests to feel welcome! There’s nothing worse that having a host or hostess running around like a chicken with their head cut off. It makes everyone feel like the party is a burden and then sorta stresses everyone out. And honestly makes the atmosphere like ‘womp-womp….’

Have a good time and everybody else will follow suit–these are your friends and family! Make sure they know that you LOVE them being there!

3 Dangerous Things That Happen When You Drive While Tired

3 Dangerous Things That Happen When You Drive While Tired

The shocking dangers when you drive while tired, and the illegal activity its compared to.

Collaborative post.

The dangers when you drive while tired are fairly well-known. Drivers are cautioned against long periods behind the wheel by automatic reminders. And every so often articles surface to caution us to not drive while tired. Given the plethora of advice on the subject, it can seem like driving while fatigued is something that everyone knows how to do. That it’s simply not a problem that we have to deal with anymore.

Of course, this isn’t the case. While it’s possible to know, intellectually, that it’s important not to drive a car while tired, reality tends to get in the way. Driving kids to school in the morning; needing to press on to finish a long journey when you don’t have time to stop— these are scenarios that make the constant advice about not driving while tired pale into insignificance.

One of the main reasons this advice is so easily overcome is due to the fact that few of us actually know what happens to us when we drive while tired. We just know doing this is “dangerous”, which isn’t particularly useful if you’re looking for facts. So, if you want to truly know what happens to you when you drive while fatigued, read on…

3 dangerous things that happen when you drive while tired

You’ll be more easily distracted

When you’re tired, you’ll be easier to distract, and there are a lot of things that can distract you while driving. From road signs to a conversation with a passenger, distraction is an ever-present threat. Unfortunately, distraction is extremely dangerous when driving; it means you’re unable to focus on your own driving, and that you’re less likely to take avoidance measures if another road user is driving poorly. In short, distractions can be calamitous. Given that all drivers want to avoid crashes and going through the painstaking process of finding legal help after a wreck, it’s clear that distraction is a matter to be guarded against— and avoiding a drive while tired is a key method of achieving this goal.

You may experience microsleeps

For any driver, the idea of falling asleep at the wheel is terrifying. When most of us picture this happening, we imagine a full “nodding off” moment; eyes closed, neck rolling, and a complete inability to drive.

This, however, is not necessarily how falling asleep at the wheel may occur. You may experience microsleeps, which are arguably even more dangerous, as they can happen without you even knowing. When driving, all it takes is the few seconds of a microsleep for catastrophe to occur.

Your reaction times are diminished

Driving while tired results in severely lengthened reaction times. This means that you’re unable to react as quickly as you should to issues on the road; for example, if a pedestrian walks out unexpectedly, or the car in front of you grinds to a halt. Studies have shown that driving while tired has just as catastrophic an impact on your ability to react and focus as driving while drunk does, and should thus be avoided at all costs.

Bottom line

Now that you’re more aware of how exactly you’re compromised when you drive while tired, you’ll hopefully be able to make positive decisions regarding this circumstance in future. Ultimately, if you suspect you’re too tired to drive, there’s a good chance you probably are. And sitting out the journey is always going to be the best choice in this scenario.

Have A Safety Net Of Money

When you start saving money money, it means you have some cash stashed away safely. This money can help you when you get into tough situations. It could be something of an emergency fund to help if you ever need money. Maybe your home suffers damages, and you suddenly have costly repairs that your regular bank balance can’t cover. Thanks to your savings, you can pay for the repairs and have enough left over to continue living comfortably.

Raise Money To Buy A Home

Everyone wants to buy a home at some point, right? It’s so good to own a house and be able to do whatever you want to it. If you start saving money now, then you’ll soon be able to afford a mortgage downpayment. As it says on http://mortgageloans.co/, the downpayment is normally around 10% of the actual price of a home. So, you don’t have too much to save before you can start the process of owning your first property! This is great for you but even better for your family as you have somewhere to call home.

Retirement is a funny time, some people want to postpone it for as long as possible, others are begging for it to come around quickly! One of the reasons to start saving money is so you can prepare for this time in your life. When you haven’t got any money coming in from a job, then how are you going to live?! Conquering the 4 Most Common Sleep Deterrents

Conquering the 4 Most Common Sleep Deterrents

The 4 most common sleep deterrents, and how to overcome them for better quality sleep, and better health.

Collaborative post.

Sleep is important. Getting the right amount and quality while avoiding sleep deterrents is crucial if you want to ensure that your body keeps operating the right way. We only have to look at the impact of a lack of sleep to understand why. After forty-eight hours with no sleep, you will start to hallucinate. Your brain needs to recover and you will no longer have a firm grasp on reality. Your eyes will also spasm and you will develop tremors. Sleep is like powering down your computer. It gives you the time you need to rest and rejuvenate.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of issues that can stop us getting to sleep, many of which you may not be completely aware of. But that’s about to change. After reading this article you’ll know all the common and secret issues that can cause a lack of sleep. We’ll start with the level of technology in your room.

Conquering the 4 most common sleep deterrents + free printable sleep log tracker

Tech And Sleep

Are you one of those people who sleep with their cell phone next to their bed or even under their pillow? Don’t worry if you do, you’re certainly not alone. This type of behavioral sleep deterrent is due to FOMO or fear of missing out. Simply put, you don’t want to miss out on any updates or notifications while you’re asleep. You’re hoping that your phone will vibrate and wake you up. As well as this, research shows that social messaging apps, websites and games are designed to be as addictive as possible. Have you ever stared at your phone waiting for someone to message back? Well, that’s because you get a certain level of joy or gratification from that flash of a new message on your phone. The focus on this type of tech can certainly cause a lack of sleep, but there’s another issue with tech.

Having tech this close to you while you are trying to sleep can cause it to impact your sleeping pattern. The tech here releases electromagnetic rays of energy. That energy can and will stop you from reaching the deepest levels of sleep. While you might close your eyes and lose consciousness, you may not feel completely rested when the morning arrives.

That’s why you should think about removing most of the tech from your room. This will help you reach the deepest form of sleep and get the high-quality rest and sleep your body needs.

A Different Type Of Pollution

You’ve heard of noise pollution, air pollution, and even water pollution but what about light pollution. Have you ever looked up at a clear night sky and been unable to see a signal star? Well, this could be due to the smog in the atmosphere. Or, it could also be due to the level of light from a nearby city or town.

But light pollution has a more personal effect as well. If you live in a city or town, you might have a street light near your bedroom window. These have to be bright enough to ensure that streets are safe to walk at night and that can mean they are bright enough to shine right through your curtain. If a room is too bright, it will act as a sleep deterrent and you will struggle to get the level of sleep that you need. Thankfully, there is a solution. Stores like Deconovo sell blackout curtains that offer the perfect, stylish way to keep light out of your property.

You can also look into getting blackout blinds. It all depends on the type of style or design that you want to create in your home. You should also think about using these window coverings in your kid’s rooms particularly if they too are having trouble sleeping.

Stressful Situations

Next, let’s think about stress. Stress can creep up on you or it can be lurking in the background of your mind. Either way, it can be enough to stop you from falling asleep. When we are stressed we typically have thoughts that haunt us. This could be anything from the worry that we might not be able to pay the bills next month to concerns about work. We all get stressed, but it’s important that you have a way to deal with this. Exercise can help. Working up a sweat each day is a great way to make sure that you are getting rid of your stress because ultimately you can clear your mind. It doesn’t need to be strenuous exercise either. Yoga is a great way to relieve stress and many people find it very soothing.

Be aware that exercise may also tire you out before bed and ensure that you aren’t rearing to go after you hit the pillow. But it must be done earlier in the day, at least 3 hours before bed.

Another great way to deal with stress is through writing. You should consider writing down your thoughts, feelings, and emotions before bed. By doing this, you are sending yourself a message that you have dealt with these issues. As such, they shouldn’t haunt you when you are trying to sleep.

Food For Thought?

Food and substances in your diet can also make sleep more difficult. You might love your morning cup of jo, but did you know that drinking coffee or any drink with caffeine actually disrupts the hormone that naturally controls your sleeping pattern? It makes it more difficult to fall asleep without artificial substances. As such, if you are having trouble sleeping you may want to lay off the coffee. At minimum, set a limit of no coffee after 2pm.

You might also want to reduce the amount of sugar in your diet. The effects of sugar can last a lot longer than after you consume a meal and alter your ability to sleep. You wouldn’t give kids sugar before bed because it will make them hyper. But sugar has the same type of effect on anyone regardless of their age if they consume too much of it.

We hope you see now that there are a variety of common sleep deterrents that could stop you from falling asleep. But they all have solutions. And if you take the time to think about this, you will get a better night sleep. You’ll wake up feeling refreshed, ready to tackle a new day head on.

4 Little Known Ways to Make Money With Your Hobbies

4 Little Known Ways to Make Money With Your Hobbies

4 Little known ways to make money with your hobbies.

Collaborative post.

Hobbies are perfect for meeting new people, letting off steam, and getting the right balance between work and life. Everyone needs an outlet, and a pastime is the way forward. Some people like to go to the gym and exercise whereas others love to cook and follow new recipes. Your agenda is a little sneakier, though – you want to make money. And make money with hobbies. There is nothing wrong with earning extra on the side. In fact, it’s encouraged because money doesn’t grow on trees. With that in mind, below are four examples of hobbies that can be lucrative.

Get the resignation letters at the ready; you may never need to work again.

make money from hobbies, side hustles, how to make extra money, money on the side, how to blog for profit, blog for money, get paid for hobbies

Playing Video Games

PlayStations and Xboxes are synonymous with the modern household. And, it isn’t only kids who love them because adults are addicted too. You can deny it all you want but the idea of whiling away the hours on COD is intoxicating. Well, it can be financially viable also if you attract enough followers on YouTube. Yep, there is a craze where people watch gamers play and laugh at their antics. PewDiePie is just one example of a normal guy who is a millionaire according to Forbes. Once the subscribers jump on the bandwagon, the sponsorship will roll in too.

Coin Collecting

Of course collecting coins is lucrative; they’re worth money for a start. Okay, well that is true but it isn’t the reason they are a nest egg. Like all currencies, they fluctuate depending on the rate of inflation. If the rate is high then the value of the coins will be low, lower than when you first added it to your collection. Austrian gold is another matter completely. Gold does rise and fall to, yet it tends to keep its value steady historically. The same goes for silver and platinum. The Austrian Mint use all three in their coins, which is why it’s the best investment money-wise.

Blogging

Writing for a living used to be a special trade, one only the professionals could do. Nowadays, citizen journalists are everywhere and the trend doesn’t look like it’s stopping anytime soon. Regardless of where you fall on the topic, it’s a surefire way to make money. Sure, there are zero guarantees but you can game the system by finding a niche topic and writing with flair. Add in engaging and interactive content and the sponsors will take notice. Think of Nomadic Matt, the traveler who built a website from the ground upward.

Crafting

It doesn’t get broader than the term crafting. What does it mean? Well, it basically suggests that you make something out of nothing with your hands. Sounds basic, right, and it is to an extent but we do live in the age of thriftiness. Plus, homemade items have a warmth and personality which are hard to replicate. Thanks to eBay (of course) and Etsy, there are plenty of places to advertise and sell units. Which makes crafting an awesome way to make money with hobbies. Craft me a winner!

Can you use your hobby to make a million dollars? Why not?

5 Changes to creating your personalized functional kitchen to handle parenting and life.

Collaborative post.

With so many of us running a home full time and working either from home or at work – again full time (even freelance requires the hours) it can feel like a total burden to have those high traffic home areas needing our attention. The truth is though that most of us could simply be more organised, and therefore required to spend less time cleaning and tidying. A well-organized home always looks neater and is much easier to pick up. And an organized + functional kitchen will reduce stress levels more than almost any other area. So, here are some tips that will get you started.

functional kitchen, organized kitchen, how to make a kitchen more functional, how to make a functional kitchen, better kitchen design, how to design a kitchen, best kitchen design, best kitchen organization

Declutter that kitchen.

Kitchens are always in use, from people getting drinks, meal times, cooking, sometimes working and when we have visitors. Due to that, there are toys, homework, paperwork, bags and that is just the surplus. The kitchen itself will have appliances we aren’t using, odd cutlery and mismatched dinner sets, old spices, half empty condiments from a year ago. So, take a bag, set aside some time and clear it all out. Once you do this, it will be easier to keep on top of afterwards and will be the first step in a more functional kitchen.

Upgrade your appliances.

This is for two reasons. First, it will always save you money in the longer term to have low energy appliance package. Secondly, the newer they are, the more good stuff they have. What do we mean by good stuff? Well, better spaces shelving, better cooler boxes, inner door storage that actually stays cold. Upgrade and don’t look back. This is one of the biggest musts for a functional kitchen.

Rolling Pantries

Rolling pantries are the best thing ever. They utilize smaller spaces and free up cabinet space all at the same time. We all have those awkward spaces that we aren’t sure what to do with, and rather than let them sit gathering dust; we can use them to store plenty of things.

Use some logic.

When you are next preparing, cooking and cleaning down after a meal. Watch how you move around the kitchen. Do you have everything in the easiest to reach space? Could you have your pots and pans in a better area, are you baking trays easy to get to? When chopping your veggies, how often did you need to move across the room to a bin? Do this a few times and then rearrange your kitchen to suit your style. Many of us place things in standard areas because our parents did it that way, but we don’t always use the kitchen in the same way – so adapt it to suit you.

Purchase a bulk amount of clear containers.

Use this to arrange your cupboard. Any dry good, cereals or flours can go in them. Label them once and use the same containers for the same food items. It’s easy to get what you are looking for and looks a lot better than mismatches food packaging.

In the end, you need a clean and functional kitchen that’s easy to navigate for busy parents who need to prep healthy delicious food, while handling homework, stories of the day, and checking incoming work emails. The better the space is organized, the easier all of those tasks will be.

3 Ways to Start Feeling More Contentment Every Day

3 Ways to Start Feeling More Contentment Every Day

3 Ways to get out of your own head and get you to feeling more contentment and less stress with the world every day.

Collaborative post.

Feeling more contentment can be elusive for many people today, living in such as fast paced world. Especially for Moms struggling to juggle it all.  There’s a psychological need for bigger, better, faster, stronger and more… yet, feeling content could be considered the same as feeling happy. And we all want to be happy, so how do we go about it?

See, a lot of people are unhappy because they are trying to control their external world, but you often can’t control the outside world or the reactions of other people… the one thing you do have control over, however, is yourself, in terms of your thoughts, feeling and actions. This is a hard thing to accept with all the shootings happening, attempted oppression, as well as natural disasters everywhere.

Yet, unfortunately many of us end up in a downward spiral where we look to external fixes to solve internal problems, for instance, a lot of people will go on a shopping spree which can feel good at the time but is probably not going to be the answer to satiate or resolve a feeling of deep loneliness or disconnection within your relationship, for instance.

The challenge is that we all have emotional habits which become second nature to us, meaning they run automatically, as they operate from the subconscious mind rather than the conscious mind; a habit according to Wikipedia, is a routine of behaviour that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously.

One the best habits you can develop to living a happier life and feeling more content within yourself is to embrace the paradigm of self love; meaning rather than beat yourself up the whole time you begin to accept yourself for all the good and the bad, and practice self care rather than self criticism.

It’s not just internal though, indeed, one of the best ways to feel better about yourself is to make progress toward your goals, as there is such psychological power in progress that it has the power to help people suffering from anxiety, depression and chronic rumination; meaning the way forward out of any negative situation is to take action and start making progress.

The other factor to remember is that progress doesn’t have to be huge feats, it can be simple things such as sorting it out your paycheck stub maker in your business or simply watering your plants at home.  It’s just vitally important you feel, on daily basis that you are making progress – as otherwise, that’s when chronic discontentment that can turn into depression creeps in.

In addition to the above, here are three steps you can take to help you feeling more contentment.

  1. STOP TRYING TO FILL THE VOID

It’s very easy to chase after external things in order to fill the internal void – but the best way to fill that void is to find nourishing ways to flesh out your life which provide meaning and fulfillment to you on a deep level.

  1. STOP DOING THAT WHICH HURTS YOU

There’s usually a trigger that causes pain, just like a food allergy, you first need to identify what the triggers are and then avoid the situations, people, and events that cause pain.

  1. GET RID OF NEGATIVE PEOPLE

Negative energy is contagious, in that it rubs off on you.  At a basic level, this means that if you’re around negative people you will become negative yourself.  Therefore you want to get around positive, uplifting and inspiring people instead.

How do you manage feeling more contentment every day? Let me know in the comments below!

Find Your Way out of Money Trouble With This Advice

Find Your Way out of Money Trouble With This Advice

5 pieces of advice for finding your way out of money trouble.

Collaborative post.

If you find yourself mired in money trouble, no matter what they are or how you got into that situation, action is essential. If you act like things can carry on with your finances how they are right now, you will only make your finances weaker and more difficult to manage further down the line. There are lots of ways to get out of your money troubles, and the advice we’re about to talk about will help you get started on that path sooner rather than later.

Start Living on Cash

Many of the most common money problems stem from the fact that people are no good at managing what they borrow or handling credit correctly. None of that has to cause you more problems if you’re willing to only live on cash instead. It’s not so hard to do this, and it makes the process of buying and paying for things more real and tangible because you’re handing over the cash rather than flashing a piece of plastic.

Become More Aware of How You Waste Money

We’re all guilty of making poor purchasing decisions at one time or another. What really matters more than anything else if how you become aware of the ways in which you waste money on a regular basis. This is the most important first step towards reducing that amount of cash waste and making your finances more healthy.

Create a Debt Repayment Plan

Most money problems involves debt in one way or another. So if you’re currently trying to pay off some debts and become debt free, you’ll first need to have a clear debt repayment plan in place. This is important because it helps you to see things clearly and methodically, allowing you to forge forward on your path more easily and, hopefully, successfully.

Don’t Rule Out Any Options

There are many options open to you when you’re stuck in the middle of big money problems. However, too many people brush these options off the table before they’ve even been properly considered. It’s not wise to limit yourself before you’ve even given thought to what the best way forward is. Talk to a bankruptcy lawyer and see if this is an option of things get really bad. It might seem drastic, but sometimes it’s the best way out.

Keep Learning More About Managing Finances

There’s so much to learn about managing your money, and most of this stuff is never even known by most people. You don’t have to qualify as a financial manager or anything, but you can expand your knowledge so that your daily challenge of keeping your finances balanced and healthy is that bit easier.

The stress of finding yourself in a financial mess can be immense, but getting yourself of the situation you find yourself in is possible, no matter how difficult it seems right now. There are always going to be challenges in your way, but that’s just the way it is. Just focus on making your finances healthier faster.

12 Ways to Make Your House an Environmentally Friendly Home

12 Ways to Make Your House an Environmentally Friendly Home

12 Ways you and your family can work to make your house and environmentally friendly home.

Collaborative post.

You’ll have heard a lot about the importance of creating an environmentally friendly home in recent years. While you would be forgiven for scratching your head about how you’re supposed to do this, there’s no need; it’s amazingly straightforward! And there’s more good news. Creating a home that runs with the wider world in mind isn’t just good for the planet; it’ll also be good for your bottom line. Yes, when you make the switch to an eco-friendly house, everyone wins – you, your family, and the birds and bees and everything else out there in nature. Below, we take a look at twelve simple ways you can greenify your house.

environmentally friendly home, green home, environmentally friendly cleaners, natural cleaners, how to save energy at home, how to create an environmentally friendly home, eco friendly home, how to make your home eco friendly

Switch it Off!

The first step in an environmentally friendly home is amazingly simple. Indeed, all it requires is a flick of the finger. Switch it off! If you’re leaving a room – and especially your house – then make sure no lights are kept on. It’s an energy sapper, one that causes the earth and your bank balance unnecessary harm. Though keep in mind that it’s not always necessary to turn off the lights. If you’re planning to return to that room within 5 minutes, then it’s best to keep the light on. It’ll use up more energy lighting itself up again than it would have if it were off.

Also, remember to really turn off your electrical items like your television, not just keep it in standby mode. Standby mode is good for turning on an item quickly but isn’t good when it comes to power usage.

Shower Times

Admittedly, it is sometimes enjoyable to take a long, hot shower, especially on those chilly winter mornings. However, it’s worth keeping in mind the wider implications of your indulgence in keeping an environmentally friendly home. It doesn’t take a rocket science to figure out that you’ll use much more water and energy if you take a fifteen-minute shower, rather than a three-minute shower. So do your best to get out of the mindset that a long shower is something that you need to have – you don’t! If you’re a family of five, just think of how much you’ll save when it comes to your bills.

Smart Meter

And talking of bills, wouldn’t it be nice to take the guesswork out of how much they’ll be each month? By installing a smart meter in your home, you’ll be able to keep tabs on how much energy you’re using. If you see that the usage is creeping up faster than you like, you’ll know that you need to be more careful. Being able to see how much you’re using – and how much it’s going to cost you – really does help push you to be more conscious when it comes to your energy usage.

Keep Yourself Warm

If you’re cold, you’ll be tempted to turn up that thermostat. If you’re hot, you’ll be reaching for the AC remote. While these are natural impulses – at least in this day and age – they’re not always the best option in an environmentally friendly home. These are some of the biggest uses of energy we have in our homes! And they cost a lot, as we’re sure you already know.

Instead, look at alternative ways to keep your temperature agreeable. For starters, you’ll be well served by adding insulation to your home, if you haven’t already. During the summer, keep those windows open so cool air can circulate around your house. In the winter, it’s all about loading up your living areas with blankets and throws. When you cook, keep the oven door open when you’re finished – it’ll push that hot air out into your home.

Buy a Water Filter

Ah, water. So pure, so fresh, so delicious. Or at least that’s the idea. Sometimes, what we end up with is water that tastes stale – and that’s not good! So what we do is, we buy bottled water. This is good from the perspective of our bills, as it reduces water usage, but that’s about it. Bottled water has a markup of some 4000% (really!), so it’s not doing your wallet any favors. And it’s a disaster for the environment, too. For every litre of drinkable bottled water, six litres are used in the production and transport of the bottles. Thankfully, there’s an easy solution – buy a water filter. They’re affordable, and will get rid of that bad taste.

Look at your Tech

There is so much technology in our homes these days; they may as well buzz. Now, we all need to have technology – good luck keeping your food cold without a fridge, for example. But not all tech is created equally. Some are terrible for the planet, and some aren’t. It’s as simple as that! When it comes to replacing your heavy duty pieces of kit, make sure the item you’re thinking of purchasing is energy efficient.

What’s in the Kitchen?

You likely know by now that some foods are particularly damaging for the environment. Meat, for example, is terrible, especially if it’s from a factory farmed animal. The water that goes into one making just one hamburger is the same as is used in more than twenty-five showers. Yes, if you ate one hamburger and wanted to offset the water you’ve used, you’d need to skip showers for nearly a month. But let’s not do that. Why not keep your showers, and add some vegan options to your kitchen and environmentally friendly home? Falafel, black beans, lentils and the like can all be mixed into delicious recipes. You’ll be eating healthier, saving money, and protecting the planet and animals at the same time. Nice!

Keeping Things Clean

It’s natural that you want to live in a clean home. Who doesn’t?! And the good news is that you don’t have to give this up just because you want to be more environmentally friendly. It does, however, mean that you might have to give up some of the products that are currently in your cleaning cupboard. You might not have realized it, but many cleaning products are made with ingredients that are bad for the health of the planet, not to mention the health of your family. Instead, use products that are non-toxic, such as those available at CleanHappens.com. Your home will be cleaner than ever before, and the planet doesn’t have to suffer. Win-win!

Upcycled Goods

You’re going to have certain items in your home. Tables, chairs, bed frames, and so on and so forth. But there’s no law that says all of these have to be brand new or bought from a large department store. There’s a growing movement of “upcycled goods,” which can be just as beautiful – if not more so – than new goods. The premise is simple. Someone has taken an old, beaten up item, given it a touch of TLC, and, brought it back to life. You can even do this yourself. Next time you’re looking for a table, see what’s available second-hand, give it a lick of chalk paint, and marvel at your creation.

Dry Things The Natural Way

You may be in the habit of taking things out of the washing machine and putting them straight into the dryer, but before you do that, take a look outside. Is the sun shining? If so, take your wet clothes outside and let them dry the natural way. If it’s an extra warm day, the clothes will dry faster than in the dryer anyway, and they’ll also have that delicious natural scent.

Set up a Recycling System

We’re all guilty of consuming more than we need. But what’s worse than that is what we buy and don’t use! Plastic wrapping, excess food, and the rest will all go to the landfill if we don’t do anything else with it. So let’s do something else with it. If you haven’t already, set up a recycling system in your environmentally friendly home. It takes a little bit of effort to get started, but it’ll all be second nature within a week or so.

Most cities nowadays have recycling curbside services. If yours doesn’t, just Google recycling services or centers in your town or area.

Start Your Own Veggie Garden

What better way to showcase your care for the environment than by enjoying all that it provides? Set up a veggie garden, and not only will you discover a deeper love for the natural world, but you’ll also be able to provide your family with fresh vegetables. What could be better than spending a day with your hands in the soil, taking care of growing plants, knowing that one day you’re going to be serving them on a plate to your friends and family?

4 Reasons and Mistakes Why Your Budget Isn’t Working

4 Reasons and Mistakes Why Your Budget Isn’t Working

4 Reasons and mistakes why your household budget isn’t working, and the steps you can take to fix those.

Collaborative post.

As a part of TRUE Self Care, we Moms need to know that keeping our finances in order is actually a part of keeping our stress levels down. The only way to keep control over your money in  your household is to budget properly. But sometimes even with the best effort, our household budget isn’t working.

Make a list of all of your incomings and outgoings, making sure to only include expenses that are actually necessary, and you’ll be able to keep an eye on exactly how much you’re spending. But sometimes you might find that you’re still overspending. If you find yourself in this category, here are four reasons your budget isn’t working for you still.

budget isn't working, budget, budget printables, budget tips, budget worksheets, budget friendly, budget for beginners, budget for married couples, budgeting, creating a budget, household budget,

The Budget Isn’t Big Enough

If you’re really trying to save money, it’s tempting to set yourself a tiny budget but that isn’t always going to work. When you’re creating a household budget, you need to be realistic about what money you need to spend. For example, if you don’t budget enough for food each month, you’ll have to spend outside your allowance.

As soon as you break the budget and start spending extra money, your mindset changes and you’re more likely to overspend on other things. Even though it’s tempting to make the budget as small as possible, you’ll have a much better chance of sticking to it and saving money if you make sure that it’s realistic.

You’re Paying Full Price For Things

If you do want to try to cut down your budget but still include everything that you need to buy, you need to stop paying full price for things. Obviously, you’re not going to be able to get discounts on every single thing that you buy but you can save money on most things. Buying used or refurbished items is an easy way to save, especially when it comes to electronics like phones and laptops.

When you’re shopping for food, always use coupons as often as possible and buy the things that are on sale. Online shopping is another easy way to save because you can use cashback sites on most major retailers and claim back a small amount of the money you’ve spent. If you use these handy tricks to stop paying full price for things, you’ll find that it’s a lot easier to stick to your budget.

You Haven’t Budgeted For Entertainment

It’s important that you’re only putting necessary expenses on your budget but it’s a mistake to think that entertainment and leisure time isn’t a necessity. Everybody needs downtime and eating out at restaurants or going for a drink costs money. If you don’t put it into your budget, you’re going to end up spending the money anyway and the budget will fall apart. While it might seem like a good idea to cut out all of your spending on leisure activities to save money, it won’t work.

You Haven’t Budgeted For Annual Expenses

When you’re drawing up your budget, it’s easy to gather all of the bills and add your monthly expenses up, but people often forget about their annual expenses. Things like car insurance that are paid as one lump sum still need to be a part of your budget. Put the money in your budget and set it aside each month, that way you won’t be taken by surprise when it comes time to pay those bills. {Check out the post How to Create a Working Budget for Your Household to see how we budget for annual and quarterly expenses using an ‘escrow’ account.}

Avoid these 4 common mistakes and your budget will be a lot more successful, and you’ll also help eliminate that added stress.

Easy Sewing Room Organization For A Busy Mom

Easy Sewing Room Organization For A Busy Mom

3 Steps to Sewing Room Organization for Busy Moms

Contribution by Jennifer Kitson

If there are two things in this world many moms don’t have enough of its time and sewing supplies.  Unfortunately, with a love for sewing often comes a sewing room filled to the brim with unfinished projects, mismatched pieces of material and a mountain of disorganized swing patterns and tangled ribbons and threads. Making the resolution to clean up and organize your sewing space is one thing but actually doing it is a whole different ball-game. Luckily a few tips and guidelines will help you to quickly create a plan of action and get your sewing room organization arranged in a way that would make even the most discerning of mothers proud.

Fold your fabrics and sort your scraps

The most obvious place to start with sewing room organization is fabric. There really isn’t a right or wrong way to organize your fabrics, as long as it makes sense to you, and clears the clutter in your sewing room, you should be good to go. It is generally easiest to organize fabric by type, season or color.

Fabric can be stored neatly folded on shelves or in bins that are clearly marked with a label indicating the contents. Although bins are becoming increasingly more popular, mostly due to the fact that they can be sealed, there is something very picturesque about stacks of deftly-folded fabrics in beautiful colors adorning rows of shelving.

Where scraps are concerned, it is suggested you cut them into usable sizes and shapes. Then discard any pieces you will never have a use for. Your scraps can be stored in a variety of ways including bins, boxes, bags or even jars. The aim is once again to make your room clutter-free. Something sorting out your scraps will greatly contribute towards.

Few things are more frustrating than trying to work at a disorderly workstation.  The next step in sewing room organization is to start by cleaning and organizing your tools, including your sewing machine which more than likely is due to be oiled.

If you don’t yet have one, consider adding a pegboard to your work area. This is to keep your scissors and other tools organized and within arms’ reach.  If you have a lot of space under your workstation you can utilize it as well. Add either shelves or simply packing equipment you don’t use often into bins that you can store there, out of sight.  You can keep neatly lined-up jars of buttons and a stationary caddy with your pens, pencils and other office supplies on your workstation as well.

Don’t forget about your threads and patterns

Although paper patterns are one of the harder items to organize, there are a number of innovative ways to keep them in order when doing sewing room organization. Baskets and bins are very useful as are shoe holders.

If you don’t have an abundance of patterns you can slot them into plastic sleeves and file them according to type or, you can simply stack them on a shelf.

When it comes to organizing your thread, a thread rack is definitely the way to go. It allows you to see exactly what you have at all times. Many people still choose to keep their threads in bins. And although there is no law against it, it can become time-consuming to scrounge around for something specific.

As a busy mom, it isn’t always possible to get things done when you want to. And organizing your sewing room does not have to be completed in a single day. It can be a project to stretch over days or weeks. And even one that you can get the children involved in. The process is as important as the end result. And if you can include those you love in it, you can end up bonding lovingly while working on a very worthy project.

How to Make Your Mornings a Little Easier, and Hate Them a Little Less

How to Make Your Mornings a Little Easier, and Hate Them a Little Less

3 Tips to make your mornings easier, and hate them a little less every day.

Collaborative post.

Waking up feeling refreshed is something a lot of people find hard to manage, and even waking up in a good mood is practically impossible for some of us! And because of that, we’re absolutely exhausted with the idea of mornings, especially when you have kids and/or you don’t get enough sleep every night. It’s not healthy, and we desperately need something to make your mornings easier!

So now’s the time to do your best in making sure you can start hating your mornings a little less, and wake up with your eyes feeling less heavy and more like they can stay open past your morning coffee. Here are some tips to get you on your way to having better nights in bed, and better mornings to blissfully stretch into.

Get Some Easy Hygiene Products

We all know getting up to shower means we lose anywhere from five minutes to a half hour of the time we could be spending in bed each morning, so it’s time to make that easier on you as well. Invest in some easy hygiene products to refresh you when you’ve just been tossing and turning at night, and even be able to smile at yourself in the mirror because of the energy you’ve conserved as a result.

Something like dry shampoo and some some roll on or rub in deodorant would be good here. Deodorant has been shown to be more effective if you apply it before you go to bed, and smell as fresh as a daisy in the morning. Dry shampoo can also give your hair a quick lift before you style it, and make you feel cleaner for the day at the office. And then you can properly wash when you get home again, simple!

Try a Better Bed

All your sleep problems may just lie in the place you lie down each night: your bed might just be bad, and you need a new one to properly stretch out on and relax with. Sleep is so incredibly important!! If your bed is quite old at this point, or you have to clamber up and down a ladder to get into it, the wear and tear in it is going to make it rickety and unstable, and you’re not going to have the energy to even get out of it.

The mattress you lie down on each night might be too hard or even too soft for your body, so you should try a change even for the sake of trying to make a change. Invest in something like a lull bed to get some better quality sleep at night, and even get out of bed a lot easier because of your proximity to the floor; you could quite possibly just roll yourself away from hitting the snooze button!

Start a Morning Routine

Beginning your own morning routine is such a great way to look forward to the mornings! This allows you a calm and peaceful transition into the day before the morning chaos begins. It also allows you the time, if you wish, to do any self-improvement activities you’ve been craving. It’s a great time to read, journal, and even exercise to really get into your day on a good foot!

How to Organize Your Kitchen Like a Pro

4 Tricks to organize your kitchen like a pro.

Collaborative post.

If there is one room whereby organization seems to stem out of control, it is the kitchen. Before you know it, you have pots and pans everywhere and your neatly organized cupboards become a mix of everything. Especially when you have kids, it can seem like it’s impossible to keep this room under control. But there is no need to worry anymore, as we have some tips to help you organize your kitchen like a pro. Read on to get started…

Group like items

One of the first rules when it comes to an orderly kitchen is to group like items. Of course, you will need to empty all of your cabinets first to do this. Once you have got all of your items out in the open, you can group them based on the sort of things that are used together. For example, put your baking items in one pile, and then all of your holiday and seasonal items in another. This will help you to ensure they are stored in an organized manner.

Make use of vertical space

If there is one part of any kitchen that tends to be underused, it is the walls. You can find some easy ideas for maximizing vertical space in the kitchen here: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/128985976805286806/. From hanging a stemware rack or placing hooks underneath cabinets to hold mugs, there are many different ways you can make the most of the vertical space that is available to you.

Throw things away that you do not need

If you want to have an organized kitchen, you are going to need to deal with that clutter. Get rid of all of the things you need and consider upgrading to multi-functional appliances so that you have more space available to you. To keep clutter under control, you need to operate the one in, one out rule, i.e. whenever you buy something new for your kitchen you need to get rid of something else to accommodate it.

If all else fails, consider a kitchen remodel –

if the suggestions that have been provided above do not seem to be working for you, it could be that your current kitchen design and layout does not make the best use of the space that is available to you. In this case, a kitchen remodel comes highly recommended. You can find out more information about this at https://kitchensacramento.com/kitchen-remodeling/ . There are many benefits associated with going down this route. Of course, you can ensure your kitchen boasts more functionality and is a pleasure to be in. Nevertheless, you can also enhance the value of your property by a considerable degree too.

If you follow the tips that have been provided above, you can get the organization in your kitchen under control. It is important to stick to the suggestions that have been provided and make an effort to keep on top of cleaning and de-cluttering your kitchen so you can ensure it remains organized and does not get chaotic again.

How to Make Daily Health Habits a Part of Your Self Care

How to Make Daily Health Habits a Part of Your Self Care

3 Ways to hardwire your brain to actually want to do nourishing health habits daily.

Collaborative post.

You know how when you’ve made a commitment to yourself that you’re gonna get out there every day? You’re gonna run those miles, or do those million sets of squats, or you’re gonna plank like there’s no tomorrow? And then you do it for like a week and half…and then sorta let it slide? You’re not doing yourself any favors, because you’re letting yourself down. You know how? By letting daily health habits be made in the negative sense. You’re training yourself to quit after a week and a half. And that’s not cool.

A huge part of Self Care for Moms lies in making sure your body is running well with daily health habits. The truth is that making these habits stick in your daily life is something that you can easily take on board, as long as you know how. It’s the kind of thing that will drastically improve your overall quality of life as well. You’re opening the door to a much happier and more fulfilled life, so trust me when I tell you it’s worth it to make these things stick, Mama!

1-Talk About It

Studies have shown that when you actively engage in frequent conversation about something, it has a direct way of making it much more a part of your life. Essentially what you focus on becomes real and increases in this way over time. So make a real concerted effort to talk about your own health goals and fitness levels with friends as much as possible–but without boring them.

If you feel like your friends are getting to their breaking point with your ‘health-speak’ (hey, it happens), chat with other fitness fanatics and friends you meet at the gym. The more you talk about it, the more a part of your life it is. So consider this if you are serious about getting into shape or just getting a little more healthy.

Think about who you can talk with in your life about your health goals. Pinpoint those that are already active, as well as friends and other fitness fanatics. Have open conversations and talk about your goals. And make sure to keep an open mind if you get input–great ideas come from advice and/or collaborations when you least expect it sometimes!

2-Bring It Home

If you are really serious about being healthier, it’s a great time to find a good way of bringing it into your home. (Remember that your kids learn by watching your actions!) This can be actually surprisingly easy, and it’s something which will instantly make an enormous difference to your overall health levels.

One of the best ways of doing so is to build and design your own home gym with simple equipment– something which is actually much easier than you might think. If you take a look at garagegymbuilder.com you’ll see that you need to put a lot of thought into different elements of the design, but as long as you do you’re bound to end up with a home gym which you can use whenever you want.

Another way to bring it into your home is to learn about healthy, clean eating. Then cook these meals for your family. Meal planning makes this super easy!

1-Figure out ways to bring the healthy habits right into your home in plain sight for your kiddos to see! I guarantee they’ll be curious at minimum–and best-case scenario–they’ll want to work out too! 2-Find some healthy meals and transition over from higher fat/calorie/sugar meals seamlessly with meal planning! Check out Real Plans–they’re super easy and have all eating styles and the option of recipes from your fave health food bloggers!

3-Track Progress

If you don’t ever track your progress, you can’t really be sure of whether or not you’re getting anywhere, and that only means that you are more likely to let your practices slip. However, if you make a point of keeping a diary or tracking yourself in some other way, you can much more easily make your health a big part of your life, and in a way which will really make a huge difference too. Remember this and try to find a way that will work for you. For more on tracking, see https://shapescale.com/blog/tracking/how-to-track-fitness-progress/.

Think about your personality type when it comes to fitness. Do you do better with a solid step by step plan in place? Or are you more of a ‘resolve to do it in the slots where I have time available’ type? Either way, tracking will be essential to keep you on track!

How to Reclaim Your Independence After a Breakup

How to Reclaim Your Independence After a Breakup

How to reclaim your independence as a mom after a breakup.

Collaborative post.

There will be various times in life when you feel like you may have sacrificed your independence as a Mom, partner, or wife. More often than not, there are usually positive connotations connected to this. After all, this change signifies a relationship and partnership, or even motherhood. But this also means considering your partner when making any major decisions and figuring out how you are going to spend your free time.

So, there’s no wonder that so many women feel like they’ve gained some new independence when their relationship or marriage comes to an end. In fact, some Moms feel slightly overwhelmed by being alone, and it can take a while to start to enjoy being an independent woman again. If you are in this position, you might be wondering how you can reclaim your independence. Here are some ways to do just that.

reclaim your independence, how to be an independent mom, new single mom, how to be independent after a breakup, how to be independent after a divorce

Give Yourself A Long-Term Goal

You might find that creating a long-term goal for yourself helps you to stay focused and put your priorities in order. Not only that, but this can help you move on. Especially if your breakup or divorce has been slightly messy and acrimonious. Your goal could be something specific, such as gaining some new qualifications, or it can be more general. For example, maybe you just want to get more fit?

Try New Things

Now is the perfect time to try new things! Lots of newly single women love doing something that they would have never dared to before, such as learning to ride a motorbike. Of course, don’t push yourself too hard when trying something new and exciting. Sure, riding a motorbike can give you even more independence, but if you take on more than you can chew too soon, you might have to choose Brauns Law to help you get through an accident compensation claim. Other cool things you might like to try include getting a tattoo and enjoying some solo travel.

Join Hobby Clubs

Some women find that they inadvertently lose some friends once a relationship comes to an end. This is often because those friends were mainly friends of their partner. Don’t worry, though; there are ways you can make new friends. The best thing is to join a hobby club to meet some like-minded people. If you are a keen reader, you might like the idea of joining a book club. There are also lots of sports clubs in every town and city, which is a great option for those of you looking to increase your fitness.

Practice Plenty Of Self-Care

Remember that you need to look after yourself on your quest to reclaim your independence. Practicing plenty of self-care ensures that you stay physically and mentally healthy and that your moods stay as high as possible.

Once you finally do get all your independence back, you will feel like a completely new person, and you will be able to enjoy life again!

Have you recently been in the position where you needed to reclaim your independence? What things did you do? Let me know in the comments below!

Finding Signs of Pests Before They Find You

Finding Signs of Pests Before They Find You

3 Ways to recognize signs of pests in your home and get a handle on it before it’s out of hand.

Collaborative post.

It doesn’t matter if you’re house hunting or simply wondering if you might have pests in your current home – there isn’t enough space for the two of you to live happily together. And, if one of you needs to go, we better make sure it’s the pests. Here is a handy guide to recognize signs of pests that you can arm yourself with if you’re suspecting that you might be in an unwanted cohabitation with these cruel little creatures; at least it is one less thing to worry about over the summer.

signs of pests, signs of pests in your home, pest control, signs of bugs, signs of infestation, signs of rodents, home pest control

Pests are surprisingly good at hiding, by the way, and just because you haven’t seen or heard anything doesn’t mean that you don’t have an infestation. Keep your eyes open for these red flags, though, and it should be a little bit easier to lead a pest-free life at home.

Alive and kicking: Keep your eyes open

As the most obvious sign, alive insects tend to be active and you might be able to spot them without much help besides your own eyes and perhaps a pair of glasses. Remember to check your house once in a while and pay extra attention to places such as the kitchen and the bathroom as well as the area right outside of your house.

They’re sneaky and may be active where you least expect them so check thoroughly before celebrating your lack of infestations. Do some research sooner rather than later too, by the way, and learn to tell the difference between different types of pests as well.

Not so much alive and kicking: Look for dead bugs

Another obvious sign is those heaps of dead bugs in the windowsill, around its edges, in the basement, and in the corners of your home. While the occasional curled-up spider doesn’t mean you have a pest infestation, you need to keep your eyes open for a number of bugs of the same species.

The more you have of the same, the higher the chances are that they live and die on the property with you. Clean it up, call some decent exterminators, and rest assured that it’s a relatively quick fix these days. Given that you’ve done your research beforehand and know what kind of bugs you’re dealing with, it should be easy enough to give them the information they need as well.

Smells and droppings: Use your ears and nose

Alright, it’s not the most pleasant discovery, but small forms of life will also leave a mark  – particularly around the house. Look out for droppings, for example, as it’s one of the most common ways to spot a pest infestation and see if you can notice any unpleasant scents of urine as well. Bed bugs, on the other hand, may leave a musty smell in your bedroom while roaches tend to have an oily odor – which really just makes them even grosser.

Another clear sign of a pest infestation is, of course, the sound of tiny feet running around under your floorboard or between your walls. Scratching, taps, gnawing, squeaking, and scurrying are classic sounds of an infested home.

While nobody invites pest into their homes, it’s better to discover them as soon as possible as they might be able to cause some serious damage if you allow them to roam freely.

5 Steps to Creating a Happier Home Environment

5 Steps to Creating a Happier Home Environment

5 steps to creating a happier home environment for your household and family.

Collaborative post.

Establishing a happy home environment is a priority shared by all homeowners. But actively taking control of the situation is another challenge altogether. While you may think that the huge TV or luxury hot tub is the answer, taking a practical and sensible approach is usually the far better solution.

Pay attention to the five areas below, and you won’t go far wrong.

happier home environment, home environment, peaceful space, happy space, happy family space

Safety

It’s an old cliché, but a safe home is a happy home. Taking home security to the next level is essential if you want to feel fully relaxed inside your property. Depending on your location, it may be necessary to think about protection against floods and other natural disasters.

In truth, though, the biggest dangers are internal. Aside from adding smoke detectors, you must also childproof the property. By fighting back against those potential problems, your hopes of enjoying your home to the max will increase greatly.

Privacy

As well as safety, you want to ensure that your home retains a sense of privacy when required. Visiting your local blinds and shutters store will allow you to cover windows in a way that brings beauty. It also provides the option to shut yourself away from outsiders. Meanwhile, building an overhead cover for your garden patio should work wonders too.

You won’t want to completely block out the light as this is a key component for making the home feel bigger and brighter. Still, adding that sense of privacy can help unlock the home’s full potential.

Efficiency

Efficiency is a crucial word in all of our lives, especially around the home. First and foremost, you want to keep the running costs as low as possible. Greener technology through water-efficient toilets and LED light bulbs can make a telling difference.

Time is the greatest resource, though. Aside from dishwashers and appliances, discovering the best robotic vacuums could be the key to saving hours of cleaning. If it allows you to spend more time doing the things you like with the people you love, it can only be a positive mood.

Storage

Every homeowner can relate to the ongoing battle for space. A good decluttering session, which may include selling a few items online, will help. Nonetheless, making the most of your storage facilities is an essential feature. Whether it’s creating space behind doors, under the stairs or within furniture pieces doesn’t matter. Each of those positive steps will benefit your cause.

The most important thing is to save valuable floor space. Shelving and other items fixed to the walls are your best friend here while vertical cabinets are better than wide ones too.

Relaxation

While there are many demands of the modern home, it is ultimately a place to sleep and spend time with the family. In truth, the bed is probably the most important household item of all. Find the right mattress to encourage a better night’s sleep, and you’ll see many benefits. This includes increased energy as well as a better mood and physical appearance.

Sofas and seating should be comfortable while you’ll want to create a layout that encourages family communication. Get those practical elements right, and the lack of fantasy luxuries won’t matter.
